Puerto Octay is located some thirty kilometres north-east of Frutilar, around Lago Llanquihue. Basically it’s a small town by the lake shore, surrounded by hills. It’s a very unique town with a different kind of architecture that is from the Alps. The town is known for i's buildings, either because they are old or they are unique, for example, the needle-steeped church. The place is full of history and legacy.

History and Culture
It dates back to 1852 where Puerto Octay was the first settlement on Lago Llanquihue. Apparently the name is from some village store that was opened by one Cristino Ochs. It was the only shop around, and the name of the shop was apparently “Ochs hay” in Spanish which meant “What’s Och’s got?” Eventually the town grew as an important port, and now it’s the municipal centre for Lago Rupanco.

Sightseeing
Visit the Museum “El Colono” or the Casa Haase. The beautiful Vicente Perez Rosales National Park is worth a visit too.
