Puerto Varas is a town located in the southern province of Llanquihue. The city is well known for its German traditions, its food, its fish and seafood, the natural environment, its casino and its 4 star hotels. Puerto Varas now has an excellent hotel infrastructure, a wide variety of restaurants and cultural events, in addition to being the departure point for fascinating tourist attractions in the surrounding area, turning it into the tourist capital of the Lakes Region.

Tourist Offices
There is a tourist information office at San Francisco, 431. It's open from 9am – 9pm, December to February and 10am – 6pm from March to November, closing for lunch.

Around and closeby
The perfect cone of Osorno volcano and the snowcapped peaks of Mt. Calbuco and Mt. Tronador are clearly visible from the lakefront. On the western shore of Llanquihue Lake are the tourist localities of Puerto Octay, Frutilar and Llanquihue. Activities include rafting, kayaking, canyoning, sailing and horse-riding.

Getting there
There are buses available to Osorno, Valdivia, Temuco and Chiloé.
