Parque Nacional Tierra del Fuego is located about 12km west of Ushuaia. It was named national park because of it's huge southern beech forests, elaborate lakes, swampy peat grounds, sub-Antarctic tundra, lush coastline, and the notable 630 square kilometres of jagged mountains. Although the park is huge, stretching all the way from the Beagle Channel to the Sierra de Injugoyen, north of Lago Fagnano, only the southernmost part is accessible to the public, by way of the RN-3 from Ushuaia. But that's good enough, this section of the park contains almost all of the most beautiful scenery! The park is divided into three smaller parts, the Bahia Ensenada and Rio Pipo in the east, Lago Roca in the west, and Lapataia in the south of Lago Roca. The Parque Nacional Tierra del Fuego is known for its various species of birds, such as Magellanic woodpeckers, condors, torrent ducks, steamer ducks, upland geese, and buff-necked ibises, and many other rare mammal species.
