Sightseeing
Visit the archaeological park that is just a short walk to the west of town along a paved road. There is over a hundred ancient statues in the park found in the local area, there is also a museum at the entrance to the park that has some great displays of jewellery and ceramics. The best part is at the bottom of the stream. Carved in the rocky bed is a series of ducts and pools decorated by human images as well as lizards and snakes. These baths are believed to have been used for rituals and ceremonies. If you follow the path up the hill you will get some fantastic views of the surrounding area and there are also a few more statues and tombs to see up there. There are lots more sites around the village, at La Chaquira you can see the faces of ancient gods carved into the rock face of the mountains, above the gorger of Río Magdalena. If you're going to Río Magdalena be sure to visit the two spectacular waterfalls there, Salto de Bordones and Salto de Mortiño, they really are beautiful.
