Pamplona is a charming town set in the Valle del Espíritu Santo. It's a very cultural place and you'll find lots of museums dotted about in the narrow streets, between the old churches and the colonial buildings. Unfortunately, due to earthquake damage, a lot of the original buildings had to be replaced by new ones and this does take away from the character of the town a bit. Pamplona is a student city and tourism provides the main economic activity. Thousands of students are lodged and fed here, thus they make up the crowds in the numerous night clubs and cafés.

Sightseeing
If you're here during Semana Santa, (Easter Week), you can witness the solemn celebrations of the Colombians, something they're famed nationwide for. The Fiestas del Grito de Independencia takes place in the two weeks before 4th July. It is a feast that includes concerts, bullfights and the ever present beauty contest.

Getting there
The bus station lies 600 metres to the south-west of the main plaza. There are regular buses from Cúcuta and Bucaramanga.
