Located just 9km from the bustling Bucaramanga, the small town of Girón serves as an alternative to the hectic lifestyle there. The cobbled streets, horse carts and extremely relaxed atmosphere are a few of the things that draw people here. This beautiful town was declared a national monument 44-years-ago, because of the history behind it. Most of the time the town serves as a popular spot for city people to escape their busy lives. The place is also famous for the beautiful whitewashed houses, shaded patios and stone bridges, which were apparently built by slaves.
Sightseeing
The Catedral del Señor de los Milagros is on the main plaza. The construction was started in 1646, but it was not completed until some 230 years later. The Mansion del Fraile is also located on the main square, and it's actually a nice, three and a half century old colonial mansion, which now houses a restaurant and a craft shop.
Getting there
You can take the city buses from Carreras 15 and 33 in Bucaramanga to reach here.
