About 29km to the north-west of Pereira you can find a typical paisa town with a population of about 9,000, called Marsella. Marsella was founded by the settlers from Antiquia in 1860. It is a pleasant and peaceful place to visit and stroll around. Marsella has its main square and streets depicting its original highland contours. Due to the fact that it is located in a quake-prone region, many of its original buildings have been reconstructed. Visit the wonderful botanical gardens, and don’t forget the unusual cemetery too.
