This huge park is very much known for being the access point to some of the most beautiful and safe stretches of the Colombian Andes. It is about 583sq km in size and faces some snow covered volcanic peaks. There are all kinds of climate ranges in this park, which you probably won't see anywhere else in the region. The altitudes range from 2600m to 5325m, which leads to various environments such as humid cloud forests and paramos, or open highlands, to the snows of the summits. The main and most famous peaks here are the El Ruiz, El Cisne, Santa Isabel, El Quindio and El Tolima. There is also a hugely famous volcano, the Nevado del Ruiz, it is the largest among all the volcanoes and last erupted in 1985. The rivers were swollen with mud due to the eruption and everything in its path, including Armero - a town with 25,000 people, were all swept away.

Getting there
Access to the park is by road, but there's no public transport. You can choose to travel yourself or go on group tours.
