Salamina, with a population of 19,000, is a typical pueblo paisa town; one of the oldest in the Zona Cafetera. It was founded in the 1825 and it is a colonial paisa-styled architectural wonder. Many of the houses to date still maintain the paisa-styled decorated windows and doors.

An unusual cathedral, which consist of a single nave, was built somewhere around 1865-1875, by an English architect. The cathedral has a wide, flat ceiling that is decorated in carved wood. It also has a wide open space on the inside because of its single nave design. It features an early 20th century wooden alter. There is also an appealing cemetery chapel in the cathedral area.
Getting there
You can get here by minibus or colectivo, they run between Salamina and Manizales. The trip takes about two hours. The buses will pass through Neira, a historical town like Salamina, which is also a great place to visit if you love the colonial paisa architecture.
