This sanctuary, whose full name is the Santuarío de Flora y Fauna Otún Quimbay, is a beautiful natural reserve created 11 years ago, initially to protect a small, five square kilometre area of the Andean forests. The park is located 15km south-east of Periera, and to reach it you can get the buses from Periera which pass by La Suiza, the visitor centre. The small forest is actually very unique for it comprises areas of various altitudes, from 1800m to 2400m. It is known for its biodiversity, and since it’s just nearby Parque Ucumarí, it’s really worth visiting both in one go. The small reserve has several ecological paths and the above mentioned visitors centre.
