Alajuela is in Costa Rica. There isn't much to see in the town itself but it is an excellent spot for beginning and ending a trip.

Though not particularly scenic, Alajuela does offer a less-hectic glimpse of Central Valley city life and a friendly atmosphere. In the centre of the city is the Historic Museum Juan Santamaría. This museum is dedicated to the 1856's Campaign against invaders who wanted to take control of Central America.

The anniversary of the Battle of Rivas is celebrated on the 11th April with lots of fireworks and a parade.

Getting there
Located only 3km from Juan Santamaria International Airport, Alajuela is cheaper and quicker to reach that San José.
