Palmares is a small village for most of the year but it comes alive for the festival which is attended by more than 10,000 people. It's a virtual non-stop day and night gala of events as the Ticos show just how hard they can party!

Sightseeing
Beer, party, beer, party … and on it goes for 10 days as Las Fiestas de Palmares, one of the biggest festivals in Costa Rica, puts on a show you won't forget in a hurry! This beer soaked festival is held in mid-January and features parades, carnival rides, a horse parade, discos, fireworks, big-name bands, small-name bands, fried food, exotic dancers, Guaro Cacique tents and more drunken Ticos that you can imagine!

Getting there
If you're driving, the road from Sarchi continues west to Naranjo where it divides, head south for 13km to reach Palmares.

Getting around
Groups of Ticas rent private shuttles, so you might get a lift.
