This national park actually protects the rain-forested slopes of the Cordillera de Talamanca, although recently the territory of the park was extended to some 583 hectares to include the Cerro de la Muerte, which is also known as the Mountain of Death, the highest point in this region. The place is known for being the wettest region in the country. Besides that, it is also famous for the paramo, or highland shrub and tussock grass which is home to various rare bird species. Tapantí is where most of the wild and mossy country is, fed by hundreds of rivers. This place is known for the thick vegetation and greens, the beautiful waterfalls, and the walking trails. Most people come here for bird watching.
