This small town is popular because of the beautiful mountain range around here, including the 1736m peak at the western end of the Cordillera Central. It is located 20km north of Naranjo, through winding roads. Most people come here for the beautiful mountains, and the fresh and cool climate.
Sightseeing
One of the attractions here is the Parque Francisco Alvarado, which was a normal plaza until 40 years ago when the whole place was transformed into something very unique. A gardener called Evangelisto San Rafael was suddenly inspired to change all the existing bushes into abstract shapes, including shapes of animals. This place is the centre for the organic farming movement in the country. The town is popular for picnics, especially in the surrounding mountains. Don’t forget to visit Piscinas Apamar, a great place to hang out; with a huge swimming pool, several hot tubs and a nice Jacuzzi!
