The small town of Tárcoles is unattractive, with very little to offer. If you’re interested in low-tide birding or hiking, then you might be interested coming here. In particular, you can visit the mudflats of Río Tárcoles for the birding, and the tall waterfalls for hiking.

Around and closeby
One of the most important spots here is the Catarata Manatial de Agua Viva, which is about 200 metres high. You can climb down the valley, passing through rain forests and seeing some exotic animals. The waterfalls here are worth visiting, especially during the rainy season. Accessing the trail for a further 2km will lead you to Jardin Pura Vida, where you can find a beautiful waterfall, a private botanical garden, and nice views of Manatial de Agua Viva. Don’t miss out the Costa Rica Coffee Roasting Company, which will most probably catch your eye before you leave the area. There's also a crocodile tour on the mudflats of the Rio Tárcoles.
