This spectacular forest is the ultimate trekking experience, lush green and dense with occasional spears of brilliant sunlight piercing through the treetops. Because Santa Elena is less travelled than Monteverde, not only is it cheaper but it’s also far less developed and not so spoiled.

Getting there
There is a bus between Santa Elena village and the reserve which leaves from the Banco Nacional at 6.30am, 8.30am, 10.30am and 2.30pm. it returns at 11am, 1pm and 4pm.
