If you dream of desert islands, where you can get away from crowded beaches, you should go out to Playa Junquillal. You can reach Junquillal by taking the paved road from Santa Cruz to 27 de Abril and from there the unpaved road to Paraíso, with one final jab across the road to Reserva Ostional. But beware, this road is only for 4WD and is blocked off during wet seasons. There are several hotels and cabinas along the road to the beach, but you can eat and sleep cheaper in nearby Paraíso. The beach is mainly for land enjoyment, the waves will never permit swimming and surfing.
