If you’re self-sufficient and looking to be truly in touch with nature, look no further than Punta Islita. Just down the coast on the south-east side of Playa Carrillo, you’ll find abandoned beaches, rough hills, rugged back country and the quiet perfection of an undeveloped island paradise.
Getting there
The best part is that it’s easy to get to, if you’re a little adventurous. You can use Playa Carrillo as a starting point and hike on one of the provided, although undeveloped, trails or you can hop in a kayak and soar down the coastline, taking in the marine sights and the beauty of the shoreline as you go. If you prefer speedy land travel, most hotels at Playa Carrillo offer day trips, or you can take a 4WD taxi. But don’t count on getting there by bus—you’ll only be disappointed at the extremely long and even more rugged hike you’ll have to take from the bus stop.
