If you’re staying in either Palmar or Humedal and you want somewhere to go that’s beauty will knock you socks off, you should arrange a special day tour to the Humedal Nacional Terraba-Sierpe. The 33,000-hectare protected wetlands are usually off-limits to visitors and can’t be reached unless you are in a special tour party. The area consists of a river delta and mangrove swamps including red, tea and black mangroves and is home to thousands of bird species as well as the snapper and snook fish. You can rent kayaks or go on a boat to the Isla Violin for its beaches and mangroves, but there are no visitor facilities.
