If you’re in Corcovado and you need a break from the regular beaches and the same old types of forests, you should head down the shoreline to Corcovado’s extension park, the Parque Nacional Piedras Blancas. The park protects more than 30,000 acres of undisturbed tropical rain forest as well as 5,000 acres of secondary rain forests, pasture lands, cliffs, beaches and thousands of species of plants, trees and animals, and has the densest biodiversity in all of Costa Rica’s major parks, making this a veritable fantasy camp for tree huggers and nature lovers. You’ll also find dozens of great hiking trails that lead you to new discoveries and places like the Casa de Orquideas, a botanical garden housing thousands of indigenous and endangered tropical rain forest plants and animals.
