If you’re looking for a truly remote desert paradise and a rough and rugged adventure, you should head down the coast of Golfo Dulce, to the north-eastern shore of Playa Cativo. Settled in right next to its deserted beach brothers, Playa San Josecito and Playa Nicuesa, Cativo offers sunshine and undisturbed, pristine waters to its visitors. You’ll have to ride a boat, kayak or water taxi to get there, but it’s worth the extra effort. There are no facilities or accommodations on Playa Cativo—you should bring food, water and a tent if you plan to stay.
