Salinas is a remarkable place located on the south coast. The city is an important tourist centre. Salinas got its name because salt used to be extracted from this region, located on the Santa Elena Peninsula. Salinas has great temperatures all year round. The best time to hit the beaches is from December to May. But even though sunbathing isn't great the rest of the year, July and August are a great time to see whales and birds.
