If you’re staying in Latcunga and need a cold and icy treat, you should head 14 kilometres south to San Miguel de Salcedo. The town may be small and has few other reasons to drop by for a visit, but the fruity, multi-layered ice cream is famous for being sweet and cheap. There is one hotel that has a Disneyesque feel to it and there is also a Sunday market that allows foreigners and tourists to participate—only to purchase, not really to sell. The small city has one large festival, Mama Negra, on the 1st November.
