If you're really gung-ho about backpacking across the country of Ecuador, you’ll need to know where the small town of Sigchos is. Just 23 kilometres from Chugchilán, Sigchos is a five mile hike and the perfect place to take a rest. It offers food, shelter and shade—and don't forget water and other icy, fruity beverages to quench your thirst. Sigchos has some basic lodgings that don't cater to but do welcome backpackers—although not your credit cards—with open arms. There's an excellent restaurant beneath one of the hotels and a small open market on Sundays
