This is a paradise for all bird lovers out there. During June and July, the Reserva Ecológica de Manglares Cayapas Mataje transforms into a haven for millions of migratory birds who fly past, creating the perfect opportunity for an award winning photograph and a memorable experience. The reserve is on 51,300 hectares of land, most of which is accessible only by boat. It supports five different species of mangroves and also has the tallest mangrove forest in the world.

Around and closeby
Right in the centre of the mangrove lies the town of San Lorenzo. There is also a pristine 11km island beach called San Pedro, but, since it is near the Colombian border precautions are necessary.
