San Miguel is a small Afro-Ecuadorian community in the Esmeraldas Province. The village is one of the bases for visiting the Cotacachi-Cayapas Ecológical Reserve, designated as one of the top ten biodiversity hotspots in the world. The local community runs an ecotourism project to help preserve the local environment. There are also opportunities to teach English in the school.

Getting there
There is a daily canoe that comes from Borbón and brings passengers, if you want to leave the same day make sure you've arranged it with the driver or he won't come back to get you.
