If your one true desire while in Ecuador is to forget time and the existence of the very world you live in, there’s no better place to do so than in Gualaquiza. Gualaquiza is tucked back in the tropical hillside, far from the road, but worth the six hour bus ride from Loja if you’re looking to get away. There’s a bike shop in the village that will provide you with a bike and the local rancheras make excellent guides through the hills. There are a couple of comfy little hotels and restaurants that serve excellent food.
