Limón, also known as Puerto Limón, sits on the Caribbean coast and is its main port. There aren't many tourist attractions here, apart from the odd handicraft market. But if you happen to pass through in October then you're in for a treat. Revellers come from all over Costa Rica to spend carnival week in Limón. Everything is decorated, including the people, and the bands play reggae and calypso music. The streets are full of dancing and drinking, eating and partying.
Dangers and Annoyances
Be careful of pickpockets, especially in the market and avoid the sea wall and Parque Vargas as muggings have been reported. Stick to well lit areas.
Around and closeby
Isla Uvita is worth a visit, you can hire a boat to reach it. There are some pleasant hiking trails and also the possibility of surfing.
Getting there
There are daily buses from San José, Moín, Guápiles and Siquirres to the Caribbean terminal.
