Misahualli is a small town located at the junction of two rivers, but it has nothing much to offer except for its ideal location. For this sleepy and slow-paced town Saturdays are the days when things come alive and people wake up from their slumber. The steamy salsoteca or salsa nightclub at the main square kicks off with some nice lights and music and party revellers enjoy dancing into the small hours. Most travellers find this interesting, especially within the setting of the beautiful rivers and their sandbanks. Once, the road across the river was a busy place for jungle tours, but nowadays the town just sleeps, for the focus has turned to Quito instead. Don’t expect much from the forests around, for the animals here have been hunted for many years, and their habitats destroyed. But it’s worth visiting around, especially for the hospitable village life and beautiful landscapes.

Sightseeing
Some of the most important tourist attractions outside the town are the waterfalls and the butterfly farm. The waterfall is located some 15 to 20 minutes from the town, easily reachable by bus. The butterfly park on the other hand is located just a block off the plaza. You can see some beautiful forest butterflies here, along with the breeding and rearing process as well.
