The Reserva Geobotánica Pululahua lies 25 km from Quito and contains 8,359 acres of land. Some forest trees, ferns and orchids are common, but the crater floor is very fertile and is used for agriculture. The walls of the crater are so steep that the vegetation grows there unimpeded. There are many species of bird located in and around the nature reserve. Squirrels, wolves, armadillos, ocelots and gazelles also make their home in this park. There are many scenic views of the crater and you can even walk to the centre of it. If you walk to the nearby mountains you'll get to see the thermal springs.
