If you’re interested in archaeology or you’re just plain curious what people looked like and lived like more than 6,000 years ago, you should plan on stopping in Chanduy. The small archaeological dig is located just 12 kilometres south of the halfway point between Santa Elena and Progreso—you’ll follow a dirt road down to the site and the museum by foot once you’ve jumped off your La Libertad bus or taxi. You can watch excavations or visit the museum. Although the excavation is within a village, there are no accommodations, so don’t plan on sticking around for very long.
