If you’re staying in Zaruma and need a change of scenery, you might as well head on over to Piñas, a small town that works as a nice little side trip. The bus from Zaruma will take approximately 1 hour to reach Piñas and the bus from Machala takes 2 hours. The hills of Piñas offer excellent views of the town and there is also an attractive botanical garden near the bus stop. If you’re stuck in Piñas overnight there’s one run-down hotel and café that has good ice cream and snacks, but Zaruma is still your best bet.
