In Playas, you'll also get a good look at local, colonial architecture, since the beach is backed and surrounded by the crumbling adobe buildings. Playas has several restaurants and hotels, but serves mostly as a weekend getaway for locals. Playas is also an important fishing village in Ecuador and many of the old, nearly antique-looking boats are still used. The sand and the surf are perfect and pristine, but at night, the resort is sketchy and not for tourists.
