If you're sick of kayaking and boating, but could do with a sweet little canoe ride, you should hop on over to Puerto Hondo. This is the perfect place to stop if you need some basic supplies and it's also the docking station for canoe rides into the area's beautiful mangrove tree reserve. Be sure to arrange canoe trips in advance, though, because they can only be taken at high tide.

Getting there
Puerto Hondo is just west of Cerro Blanco at the 17-kilometre marker on the Guayanquil-Salinas highway and you can get there on the bus to Cerro Blanco.
