Puerto López is a small fishing village set in an arched bay on the Pacific coast in the Manabí Province. It is home to the Machalilla National Park headquarters. The main industries include fishing and eco-tourism.

Around and closeby
A few kilometres offshore is La Isla de la Plata. You can find some species of bird here that are also native to the Galápagos Islands, like the blue and red-footed boobie, frigate birds, albatross, pelicans and other sea birds, that are nesting in colonies. The island is surrounded by coral reef and snorkelling is a popular activity. On the boat ride from Puerto López to the islands you can often see dolphins.

Getting there
There are frequent buses from Quito, Santa Elena and Jipijapa. You can also catch a bus to Portoviejo or Manta and get connecting buses from there.
