If you're on your way to Macará from Loja, and you're hoping to see some architecturally and naturally significant surroundings, you should take a quick peek into the town of Catacocha. Nestled above the Valle de Casanga between Loja and Macará, this sweet little town has some beautiful buildings with Spanish influences and is a national heritage site with natural monuments and folklore to boot. There are some cheap but comfortable hotels in the city and several restaurants serving up local cuisine, although all of them are on par with each other quality and price wise.
