If you’re looking for a visit to the Sunday market and a nice stroll along a riverbank, you should visit Gualaceo. Just 25 kilometres from Cuenca, the small town isn’t worth the extreme hike—unless you’re doing it anyway—but it may be worth a short bus ride on Sundays. The market doesn’t offer much in the way of crafts, but can be fun, and there are several restaurants serving yummy local fare along the riverbank. Paired with a mid-day stroll this can be an excellent resting time. If you stay the night, you’ll find two comfortable, inexpensive hotels.
