When you’re in El Salvador, there’s no doubt that you’re looking for a bit of international fare and some history to go with it. You’ll find both of these things in Corinto, which is a small town in the Morazán department of El Salvador.

Sightseeing
The international market is to die for and, just a brisk walk away, are some incredible cave paintings in "Las Grutas del Espíritu Santo", on a high overhang, dating back thousands of years. These are a local tourist attraction and a registered National Monument of petroglyphs. The archaeologist Wolfgang Haberland performed studies in the late 1970s indicating that the art belongs to the Pre-Classic stage.

Getting there
The trip here from either direction is very scenic. You can catch buses from San Miguel or Cacaopera.
