If you’re looking for the best birding experience in all of El Salvador, you should head down to the Laguna El Jocotál. Located at the Carr Litoral at kilometre marker 132, Laguna El Jocotál is the largest bird sanctuary in the entire country and is home to more than 214 different bird species, nearly half of which are migratory. The best time to visit is between October and March since this is when the migratory birds are here, and it's best to take a boat tour rather than getting in the way of the women doing their washing at the water’s edge.
