The village of San Ignácio is even smaller and quieter than La Palma, but it’s preferred by tourists, sometimes for that reason alone. For those who plan to go hiking around this area, this village is an ideal base for you.
Sightseeing
One of the most interesting places to visit is the Cerro El Pital, which is the highest peak in El Salvador. It is a good spot for hiking, and you can also travel up by 4WD. The hiking trails lead to the summit and Piedra Rajada, a huge rock cloven down the middle. Pena Cayaguanca is also a popular spot here. It is the large rock that you can see protruding from the top of the hill north-east of La Palma. If you are going to come here, bring your camera along, for the views are just wonderful. It is also a good place for hiking and picnicking.
