Nahuizalco lays on the "flowers route" (Ruta de las Flores), 9km from Sonsonate and 74km from San Salvador, on the southern part of the Apaneca-Ilamatepec mountain range. If you’re into studying the cultural lifestyle and skills of the indigenous people then this village is a must-visit. There are strong indigenous customs here. Its name in the Nahuatl language means "place of four Izalcos "; by tradition, it was founded by four families from the nearby town of Izalco. It is famous for its wicker and tulle handicrafts.

Getting there
You can reach here by catching the 53D bus which leaves from the new bus terminal in Sonsonate and will bring you into the town centre. You can also catch a bus from Juayúa that will drop you off on the highway, 500m from town.
