This national park is actually a tropical mountain forest with various altitudes that work to preserve the animal and plant life here. Located in the Apaneca-Ilamatepec range, this park was named after the dangerous gorge here, which was once a well used route for coffee growers transporting their crop from the northern fincas to Acajutlá. The route was once extremely dangerous and many people have been killed trying to cross it. Then a bridge was built and everything changed. Now it’s a tourist spot from which to see some spectacular views of plants and animals in the wild, including pumas, wild boar, king hawks, and over 400 kinds of trees.

Getting there
You have to pay the park entry fee at the San Salvador office of SalvNatura. You can also arrange a guide from there to show you around. It may be better to visit the park on an arranged tour because you'll probably get more out of it.
