This big city, with a population of over 66,000 people, is a favourite spot among travellers because of its location. It lays along the route to some of the most famous attractions in the region, including the Parque Nacional El Imposible and the Ruta de la Flores. There’s nothing much to see in the town itself, though it does make a good stop-over.

Sightseeing
The city centre is the only place to visit. If you're lucky enough to be around for the Semana Santa celebration, there'll be some interesting things going on.

Getting there
You can easily get to Sonsonate by bus from most places, as it's located in the middle of all the main routes. Buses from Santa Ana via Los Naranjos, Ahuachapán, Apaneca, Izalco, La Perla, Nahuizalco, Los Cóbanos, San Salvador and lots of other places all stop off here
