The pleasant town to San Cristóbal Verapaz sits on the banks of the Lago de Cristóbal. This lake was once a favoured swimming and fishing spot but the water has been polluted by the nearby shoe factory. Some of the very last Poqomchi’-speaking Maya live in San Cristóbal.

Getting there
Buses running between Cobán and Uspantán will go through San Cristóbal, try not to miss the last bus out of town as there isn’t very much accommodation and what there is isn’t very good.
