The small town of Tactic is mostly indigenous, with the main language being Poqomchi’. It is situated in a lush green alpine valley where the air is cool and clean. There are a few attractions in the town itself.
Sightseeing
Up a long flight of stairs, high above the town is the pagan chapel of Chi-ixim. Inside there is a dark skinned Jesus idol that people from far and wide come to worship and to give thanks to. The beautiful façade is decorated with intricate images of jaguars and mermaids. The pozo vivo was once a worthwhile place to visit, great for wallowing in the mud. But nowadays this mud bath is dry most of the time. The Balneario Cham-che is worth going to though, these pools are fed with crystal clear spring water and they’re the perfect place to cool off and have a swim.
