Castillo de San Felipe was built to stop the British pirates sailing up the Río Dulce and stealing supplies. It stands proudly at the entrance to Lago de Izabal and looks somewhat medieval. Once inside it’s easy to get lost in the maze of tiny rooms and secret passageways.
