Chiquimula is nestled into one side of a vast valley, on the road from Zacapa. The town is not particularly attractive, it’s very hectic and congested with traffic, and there aren’t many sights of interest.

Sightseeing
The huge old church, that was damaged in the 1765 earthquake and never restored, stands in ruins on the eastern side of town. Although just a shadow of its former glorious self it is still quite impressive, with its crumbling Baroque façade.

Getting there
There are buses every hour to Guatemala City and Puerto Barrios, from the bus terminal on 1A Calle. There are also micro buses to Esquipulas, Ipala and Anguiatú.
