Situated at the base of Volcán de Ipala, this rather uninspiring town is an important crossroads. There isn’t much in town other than a few shops and a couple of decent places to eat and sleep. The volcano itself is worth climbing as there is a pretty little crater lake inside. The lake is enclosed by trees and to the north there is a patch of untouched cloud forest. It’s an easy climb to the top and it’s also an excellent place to camp if you don’t want to stay in town.
