The bustling town of Jutiapa is the transportation hub and the trade centre for the east. You can catch a bus from almost any town in the east and it will eventually drop you off here. There are buses leaving every hour from the town centre for Guatemala City and for the border. Although there’s not much to see in this town it is a good place to plan your journey, and there are plenty of places to stay overnight that aren’t very costly.
