The Bocas del Polochic Reserve is located around the mouth of the Polochic River. It is internationally recognized as an important wetlands system by RAMSAR. Covering a large area of jungle wetlands on the western shore of Lago de Izabal, it has a rich diversity of plant and wildlife, including manatees, ocelots, tapirs, crocodiles and many, many species of birds. The village of El Estor is a good place from which to explore the reserve.
